Week 2 - Sealed in the Holy Spirit
The Spirit assures believers of their adoption

Last week we were reborn, this week we are adopted as God's children for eternity.

Ephesians 1:13-14
And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession—to the praise of his glory.

Ephesians 4:29-32
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

1 Corinthians 3:16
Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?

Romans 8:10-11
But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.

Lambs and the Spirit

Hi Ladies,

I thought of another physical birth vs. spiritual rebirth analogy and I'd thought I'd share since it involves lambs (just for you Nicole). Haha. :)

I've seen a handful of ewes give birth and it's not a whole lot different than humans--painful, messy, not very pretty, but amazing nonetheless. As soon as the lamb is born, the mother cleans it up. She doesn't rest from the exhausting birthing process, but goes immediately to the lamb and begins to lick it dry. It's really important that she does this, especially on domestic farms where the lambs are usually born in the winter. If she doesn't get the lamb clean and dry, they are likely to freeze to death or at least become very sick. So the connection... We're messy when we're reborn (as many people mentioned last night). We don't "clean" ourselves up and then say "Ok, Spirit, I'm ready now, renew me!" The Spirit comes to us when we're messy and helpless and begins the slow process of renewing us, cleaning us up, sanctifying us. And in that process, it is saving us from death and filling us with life.

John 3:5-8
Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

Acts 1:4-5
On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."

Acts 2:8
Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Titus 3:4-6
But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior
